Midtown Charrette Results

A charrette provides an interactive forum for ideas and feedback, and a venue for collaborating with team members on developing a direction for the plan. The charrette for the Midtown District brought together planning team members, residents, business and property owners, and city leaders and staff, into a relatively brief, but intensive, process of input and output.  The Charrette was used to help refine issues, share information and experiences, and begin to identify strategies to make the most of the challenges and opportunities facing midtown.   To find out more about what a Charrette is, click on the following link:  http://www.charretteinstitute.org/charrette.html.

Economic Outlook and Land Demand Projections

This document presents a market demand study that provides a 20-year projection of anticipated growth in housing, office space, and retail space market sectors.  Relevant data is evaluated at the Midtown and neighborhood level of geography as well as for the entire Anchorage metropolitan area.  The report describes the socio-economic and market conditions of Midtown within the context of the larger city and regional market.  The economic outlook report was completed by Demand Strategies under contract to HDR Alaska.  Demand Strategies is a leader in guiding effective strategies for economic, community, and real estate development.  To find out more about Development Strategies visit http://www.development-strategies.com.

Anchorage 2020 Vision
As a step-down plan from Anchorage 2020, it is first important to understand the guidance and framework established by that plan.  This document better defines the Anchorage 2020 planning framework for Midtown.  It is the role of the Midtown District plan to further articulate and delineate how and where the Anchorage 2020 guidance applies.

Draft Issues
The planning team provided outreach to business leaders, residents, and elected officials through a public involvement campaign that included interviews, public meetings, and a web site.  The following issues and desires were uncovered during that process.  Resolution of these issues will drive the successful implementation of the plan.

We invite your comment on these issues. Click here to download the Draft Issues Paper

Draft Goals
The planning team reviewed the issues and ideas from the public comment and created draft goals and objectives.  When finally adopted, the goals and objectives will guide future growth in Midtown.

We invite your comment on the goals and objectives. Click here to download the Draft Goals and Objectives Paper
